That Guy

He scoped out the market
All the women and kids
So many distractions
Nobody noticed him
Nobody noticed him
He had a jacket a size too big
A skull cap on his head
A couple of homemade bombs duct-taped to his chest
He duct-taped them to his chest
God loves that guy
God loves that guy
He followed his heart
To a co-workers bed
Could have salvaged his marriage with kids
He chose to leave instead
He chose to leave
He thought it was love
But it was just a mirage
So he sits in his idling car
Parked in a closed garage
Inside a closed garage
God loves that guy
God loves that guy
Me on the other hand
I can write somebody off
Like a last check for a student loan
I can love when it’s convenient
But it’s not always convenient
It’s not always the easy road
I want to look past the outside
To the well-meaning heart
To the good they forgot that they had
Teach me to love, Teach me to love
Teach me to love like that
He messed up again and wanted to disappear
But he can’t cause he’s easy to find
I see him in the mirror
I see him in the mirror
God loves that guy
God loves that guy
So teach me to love, Teach me to love
Teach me to love like that
Teach me to love, Teach me to love
Teach me to love like that
Love like that

Joss Whedon’s latest brain child is on Hulu for the next month. The best part about Hulu is it’s free! (It’s also available on iTunes for purchase.) “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” is hilarious and its hard to not sing along. (Of course if you hate musicals you will not enjoy this - you know who you are.) Whedon has said there will be more Dr. Horrible to come… Hopefully we will find out how evil Dr. Horrible really gets… Does Bad Horse have a voice? Is there a lot of politics in the ”Evil League of Evil”? Will Dr. Horrible find love? Will Captain Hammer return and bring… the.. hammer?

Dr. Horrible was creative project during the Writers’ Guild of America strike. Written by Whedon, his brothers Zack and Jed, and Jed’s fiancee Maurissa Tancharoen.
Over at ”Jesus Needs New PR” Matthew Paul Turner introduced me to Brooke Fraser. I’m half way through my first listen and love like what I hear. Brooke brings an honesty to her lyrics that is refreshingly transparent. Her vocals are clean and not overly produced. While I’m only on my first listen I think I could leave this album on repeat for some time and not grow weary. Pop over to iTunes and check it out, or just click here.
Update 8/3/08: I’ve had a chance to listen a bit more and while the album is good, I found many of the songs to sound the same. She started to remind me of Jacque Velasquez a bit. Which isn’t a bad thing, just something I’ve heard before. 3/5
Don’t ask me why… but the Yip-Yips came to my mind today at work. I think I was answering in the affirmative to my boss and it came out as, “Yup, yup, yup.” A synapse misfired and I had undulating Muppet mouths flashing across my mind’s eye. A quick YouTube search for “yup, yup, yup” came up empty… I tried “Yip, Yip, Yip” and hit the jackpot.
I’m not sure how long this will remain posted but you’ve got to see this guy dance – amazing.

I realize my new blog isn’t offering much in the way of new or personal content at this point. I made a decision to only write when the mood hit. Previously I would spend time thinking of what to write about and everyday interactions gave pause to wondering if it was a blog-worthy experience.
As my good friend Kris says, “Meh!” I’m not going there again – it sucks the fun right out of blogging.
So I have another “shout out”. This is to a post on Rain City Pastor’s blog call Truth… Please. Excellent. Excellent read.

If you have a cell phone you will want to add this number to your speed dial immediately: 800-466-4411. It is Google’s 411. Here is the best part: it’s completely voice activated, it will automatically connect your call, and it doesn’t cost a penny. No more $1.50 charge for information from your cell phone company and you don’t have to wait for someone to take your call.
From this point forward: “Just Goog’ it!”

I can totally relate to this. Can you?
Jump over to Stuff Christian’s Like and read the entire thing. Here is my favorite part of the post:
“If you go to a contemporary church, the unicorn song is when you notice in the bulletin that one of the numbers you’ll be singing today is a hymn. With a suspicious feeling you look down and read, “How Great Thou Art” and try not to get too excited. “Is that really the hymn version or has a pop/punk/acoustic/funk duo rewritten that song and I’m about to hear the contemporary version?” But then it starts, and it’s the old fashioned version and for just a second, despite the goatees, despite the lasers and the mocha lattes sitting next to you, you’re back in your old church, the one you grew up in and you’re a kid again, for at least one song.”
